Kenai Fjords National Park

 Introduction

Kenai Fjords National Park is located in south-central Alaska near the town of Seward. The park was founded on December 2, 1980. Kenai is a little under 700,000 acres in area.

Things To Do

One of the best things to do when visiting Exit Glacier. There are many trials you can walk on to see the active glacier or see the surrounding area. If hiking isn't your thing you can learn about the glacier in the nature center.

Trails aren't the only thing that you can get around in Kenai Fjords. Kayaking is a great way to experience the park differently. If you arent that experienced you can hire a guide to help you explore the park.

If you plan on spending the night here in Kenai there are three cabins you can stay at. One in the winter near Exit Glacier and two in the summer. Don't forget to bring extra layers for the cold Alaskan nights.

The rangers here at Kenai Fjords offer a great way to learn about the park with their ranger-led programs. For example, the Pavillion talk where they focus on a story or animal that lives in the area and talk about it for about half an hour.

Harding Icefield

Harding Icefield spans over 700 square miles and is the main feature of Kenai Fjords national park. The 8.2-mile trail coming out of the Exit Trail area is an amazing way to see the icefield.

The hike is strenuous if you go all the way to the top. you gain about 1,000 ft of elevation for every mile on the trail so definitely be prepared to take your time. Also, check the conditions because they can vary depending on what time of year.
